Give Back Through the Future

In the 1985 smash hit, “Back to the Future”, the character of Marty McFly, a completely typical ‘80’s teen, finds himself accidentally transported back to 1955 through a plutonium powered Gull-Wing DeLorean time machine invented by Marty’s mad scientist friend, Doc.  Marty’s mission is to make sure the right connections are made so that the Future can happen and he can become himself…all over again.

The plot line for philanthropy is a very similar continuum.  We are all born unaware of our surroundings with an innate desire for self preservation.  As we grow, our world view grows and we see ourselves as part of a bigger whole.  Knowledge powerfully transcends our childlike vision of being the center of the universe to instead interpret the world from others’ perspectives.  We see the “big picture.”  We understand that ultimately our destiny is tied to the destiny of others.  And, if we choose, we can even “time travel” like Marty.  Through legacy gifts, we can give back to the future.

The Community Foundation of Greater New Britain thrives from the generous donations, help and support of those whose compassionate world view ties them to others…you could say putting the “I” in Community.  Our Beehive Society is made up of donors who want to create future gifts that can continue their philanthropic work beyond their own lifetimes. The Beehive members provide for a future gift to the Community Foundation through life income arrangements, wills and estate plans or a combination of these tools.

Most frequently, future gifts are unrestricted, enabling the Foundation to respond to the needs of the times.  Sometimes, donors have specific organizations or interest areas in mind and wish to incorporate them into their plans.  In that case, we encourage them to contact the Foundation to discuss those plans in advance so the Foundation understands and can fulfill their wishes…continuing to help them give back through the future.

“Clients often ask me to suggest the best way to achieve their charitable donor intent; my advice is that they meet with representatives of the Foundation where they receive thoughtful information and guidance,” shares Attorney Bill Weber with Weber & Carrier LLP.

Rev. Leonard Clough, past CFGNB volunteer and current Beehive Society member, explains, “As a former resident of Kensington and a past member of the CFGNB Board of Directors, I learned about many of the unique ways in which the Foundation serves the Greater New Britain community. I could think of no better way to help individuals and organizations serve residents of New Britain, Berlin, Southington and Plainville who are in need.”

Beehive Society members are invited to the Foundation’s events, receive key reports and mailings and are listed in a special section of the Foundation’s website.

To become a Beehive Society member, simply notify the Foundation by phone, or in writing, that you wish to make plans for a future gift through the Foundation.
