Community Foundation Shifts to Three-Times-Yearly Grantmaking Cycle
Grant Application Deadlines to Change in 2009
(November 20, 2008) Notice to nonprofit agencies and programs seeking grant awards from the Community Foundation of Greater New Britain in 2009: The Foundation’s grantmaking cycle and grant application deadlines are about to change.
Beginning next year, the Community Foundation will start awarding grants on a three-times-yearly cycle – spring, fall and winter – as opposed to its traditional quarterly process, said Jim Williamson, Foundation president. Accordingly, grant application deadlines will change, as well; the new deadlines will be February 15 (spring), June 15 (fall) and October 15 (winter).
The change was first announced to grantseekers early this year, and represents the logistical component of the Foundation’s shift to a new set of results-oriented community investment guidelines designed to keep pace with changing community needs; establish the Foundation as a vibrant, relevant agent for change; and achieve the greatest good for the Foundation’s four service communities of Berlin, New Britain, Plainville and Southington.
“Our revised investment guidelines have been received enthusiastically by the nonprofit community,” said Williamson. “It has been our goal all along, beginning with our workshop for grantseekers in February and additional workshops in April and October, to introduce this shift with the highest degree of consideration for those seeking our assistance. This change in our grant cycle is the final step of the process.”
The modified guidelines are based upon a grant framework designed by the Rensselaerville Institute in New York, a leading consultant to foundations and nonprofits nationwide. The Institute’s vision of results-oriented community investment is being adopted by Foundations across the country. The goal, according to Williamson, is to make thoughtful funding choices that offer the potential for clear human gain and community-wide impact.
