Three Community Servants Nominated for Celebrate Berlin! Award
(March 10, 2008) Three community servants have been nominated as candidates for the 2008 Celebrate Berlin! award, part of the Community Foundation of Greater New Britain’s four-town Celebrate Our Communities! community service awards program in Berlin, New Britain, Plainville and Southington.
The recipient of the 2008 award, which honors an outstanding grassroots volunteer in Berlin, will earn the right to designate a $2,500 grant award from the Community Foundation of Greater New Britain to a Berlin charity or community service organization of their choice. The recipient will be announced next week and honored at the Berlin Chamber of Commerce’s 55th Annual Meeting and Awards Ceremony Friday, March 28, at the Hawthorne Inn. This year’s nominees are:
• Don Dellaquila, a Berlin resident and youth sports coach and volunteer for many years with organizations including Berlin Little League, Berlin Midget Football, Babe Ruth League Baseball and the Berlin High School Boosters and Friends of Football (nominated by Roger Perno);
• Jim McNair, a Kensington resident who helps low-income families as a volunteer budget coach with the United Way of Berlin-New Britain’s Working Families Initiative and has volunteered for many other organizations serving Berlin (nominated by Lucinda Antonacci).
• John Tedesco, a Berlin resident who has been actively involved in numerous programs and initiatives of the Berlin Upbeat Program (nominated by Alice Mitchell).
Serving on the Selection Committee for the 2008 award are Mayor Adam Salina, chair; Cheryl Carlson, a Berlin resident, retired Director of Admissions for Mooreland Hill School and Foundation board member; Michael Cassetta, a local business leader and owner of commercial property in Berlin; Manon-Lu Christ, a Berlin resident and Foundation board member; Berlin Superintendent of Schools Michael Cicchetti; Kate Fueschel, Executive Director, Berlin Chamber of Commerce; Phyllis Kindelan, a Berlin resident and Foundation board member; Robert Mayer, Managing Editor, The Berlin Citizen; and Brad Parsons, a Berlin resident and Registered Representative with Parsons Financial Management, LLC.
