Central Connecticut Senior Health Services, $10,000
From the Catalyst and Alix W. Stanley Discretionary Funds for the creation of a mobile Center for Health Aging that will bring a wide array of information and services closer to senior citizens and their families living in Berlin, New Britain, Plainville and Southington

From the Johnstone Vance Memorial Fund for EarnBenefits, a three-year Online Benefits Screening Initiative to improve access to work supports by low-wage residents

From the Ev and Ethel Herre Memorial Fund for comprehensive needs assessments and care management services to frail elderly in Greater New Britain who cannot afford to pay for services and not yet eligible for publicly funded programs

Connecticut Council for Philanthropy, up to $2,000
From the William E. Attwood, Jr and Alix W. Stanley Discretionary Funds for a collaborative public policy project among Connecticut’s community foundations

Connecticut Legal Services, $25,000
From the Johnstone Vance Memorial Fund for direct legal assistance services to 25-30 low-income families/individuals and for three legal outreach and education events on client legal rights for area social service agencies  

Connecticut Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra (CVCO), $12,000
From the Frances P. Parker, Talcott Stanley and Alix W. Stanley Discretionary Funds to implement marketing strategies aimed at increasing revenue and expanding audience

From the Jeanette Elizabeth Westlake Memorial and the Charles L. Munford, Jr. Memorial Funds to purchase the TalkSystem, a device used to communicate in multiple languages simultaneously during educational workshops for parents

From the First Years First Fund to support the second year expansion of the Family Resource Center in Southington (FRCS)

From the Alix W. Stanley Discretionary Fund to “Helping Hand,” a program through which local food pantries will access funding needed to build capacity in three strategic domains: food assistance, self-sufficiency and community engagement

Friendship Service Center, up to $10,000 matching grant
From the Johnstone Vance Memorial Fund to match funds raised from the Center’s Directors and Trustees that will enable the Center to hire its first part-time development staff member

Greater New Britain Arts Alliance, $13,000
From the Alix W. Stanley Discretionary Fund for operating support to help the Alliance achieve its organizational goals for the coming year 

Human Resources Agency, $20,000
From the Alix W. Stanley Discretionary Fund to expand the New Britain Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) outreach and Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program in order to serve more people

Literacy Volunteers of America, $50,000
From the First Years First Fund to support year two of the Central Connecticut Family Literacy Initiative, a project to address emergent and family literacy

Neighborhood Housing Services of New Britain, $7,500
From the Alix W. Stanley Discretionary, Johnstone Vance Memorial and an anonymous fund to increase NHS’ capacity to meet the growing demand for default counseling and loss mitigation assistance needed by homeowners due to the economy

New Britain Discovery Initiative, $45,000
From the First Years First Fund for 2009 support of this initiative, which works to improve preschool and early childhood education in New Britain and increase access to preschool for more children 

New Britain Food Security Collaborative, $15,000
From the Howland Rogers Family and Alix W. Stanley Discretionary Funds for second year support of the New Britain Food and Resource Center

New Britain Museum of American Art, $45,000
From the Alix. W. Stanley Discretionary fund for support of the Museum’s education and outreach program 

New Britain Symphony Orchestra, $10,000
From the Alix W. Stanley Discretionary Fund to build organizational capacity through strategic marketing

Non-Profit Technical Assistance Sessions, $2,409
From the A.W. Stanley Discretionary Fund and an anonymous donor for three technical assistance sessions for non-profits in 2009 focused on providing training & technical support as they begin to address the effects of the economic downturn on their respective revenues and programs.  These sessions were provided in collaboration with the American Savings Foundation.

Opportunities Industrialization Center of New Britain, up to $20,000
From the Georgia Knapp Thomson, Jeanette Elizabeth Westlake Memorial, William T. Livingston Memorial, J. Edward and Justine B. Melson Family, Ted and Nancy Johnson, Andrew-Hicks Memorial, Walter H. Dickman and Howland Rogers Family Funds to support year two of the Bicycling Enthusiasms as an OIC youth and employment program that trains youth in advanced bicycle repair

From the Alix W. Stanley Discretionary Fund to hire a grant writer to complete the annual grant required by the Office of National Drug Control Policy

Trinity-on-Main, $25,000
From the Alix W. Stanley Discretionary, Spencer P. Torrell, Anna Thornton, and Marjorie Wright Tomlinson Funds for operating support as Trinity implements a new business plan 

Tunxis Community College, up to $45,000
From the First Years First Fund for year four support of the Early Childhood Professional Educators’ Consortium, a resource for early childhood educators to develop professional camaraderie, meet curriculum and professional development needs and achieve NAEYC accreditation

University of Connecticut Nonprofit Leadership Program, $2,000
From the A.W. Stanley Discretionary Fund for Executive Directors from four local non-profit organizations to participate in a workshop designed to help them strategize options in the current economy while keeping an eye toward strengthened organization and community impact in the long term
