Southington FIRST Robotics Fund

". . . It's like life.  You never have enough information.  You never have enough time.  The kit of materials may be what you have in the warehouse.  There are always people doing competing things and you must have a strategy.  We've created a microcosm of the real engineering experience."

The Southington FIRST Robotics Fund was created November 6, 2008 for the purpose of enhancing Southington students' science and technology skills and learning opportunities.  The goal is to get Southington students interested in engineering and other fields with an activity that extends past the reach of the normal after-school program, and also to encourage students to consider a future in engineering, science and math-related fields.  To view a video that the Robotics team has made, click here

FIRST Robotics is a unique varsity sport of the mind designed to help high-school aged young people discover how interesting and rewarding the life of engineers and researchers can be.  It is a sport where the participants play with the pros and learn from them, they design and build a robot then compete on stage every year.  Each year the game rules change.

Since 1989, the FIRST Robotics Competition has grown from 28 teams to over 1,100 today.  The fund distributions are made to the Southington FIRST Robotics Team #195 as requested by the Southington FIRST Team Lead Teacher Advisor or by the Superintendent of Schools.
Our Story

Gracious professionalism has purposefully been left somewhat undefined because it can and should mean different things to each of us.  We can, however, outline some of its possible meanings.  Gracious attitudes and behaviors are win-win. Gracious folks respect others and let that respect show in their actions.  Professionals possess special knowledge and are trusted by society to use that knowledge responsibly.  Thus, gracious professionals make a valued contribution in a manner pleasing to others and to themselves.
