Early Childhood Collaborative

From 2003 through 2008 the Collaborative worked with early care providers, the school district and state legislators to dramatically increase preschool capacity and raise preschool participation from 32% to 79%.   At the end of 2009 the Collaborative released the Blueprint for New Britain’s Young Children.  This community plan will be the basis of our work going forward. 

The Blueprint highlighted the need to improve children’s reading skills in 3^rd grade.  With support from the Annie E. Casey Foundation, the William Casper Graustein Memorial Fund, the Children’s Fund of CT and the State Department of Education  the Collaborative and school district have launched the New Britain Campaign for Grade Level Reading.
