Founded in 1978, Literacy Volunteers of Central CT’s mission is “Volunteers helping people improve their lives through English literacy”. Serving over 400 people per year with the help of over 200 dedicated volunteers; adults receive instruction and encouragement to improve their skills in reading, writing, or speaking English in order to achieve their work, family, and community goals. In addition our family literacy programs help parents to gain literacy skills to support their children’s success in school and to improve the financial sustainability of their families. Our affiliations include the national organization, Proliteracy and the National Center for Family Literacy.
