Community Foundation of Greater New Britain in Top Tier of National Philanthropic Organizations Meeting Rigorous Standards for Quality and Accountability
(February 16, 2012)
– The Community Foundation of Greater New Britain (CFGNB) recently received notification that it has, once again, met the nation’s highest philanthropic standards for operational quality, integrity and accountability. The notice comes from the
Community Foundations National Standards Board
, a national accreditation organization based in Arlington, Va. The Community Foundation of Greater New Britain was among the first 100 community foundations to achieve certification when the National Standards program was introduced in 2006. The program requires re-certification every five years.
“This is similar to the Good Housekeeping Seal for community foundations,” said Diane Miller, Manager, Community Foundations National Standards Board. “It says that the Community Foundation of Greater New Britain has demonstrated a commitment to operational quality, integrity and accountability.”
The National Standards for U.S. Community Foundations™ program requires community foundations to document their policies for donor services, investments, grantmaking and administration. The program is designed to provide quality assurance to donors, as well as to their legal and financial advisors.
“This is critically important to our donors,” explains Paul Salina, Chair of the CFGNB Board of Directors. “When people make a charitable bequest, establish a fund or set up an annuity, they are putting their trust in us. They are counting on us to manage the investment wisely and honor their charitable wishes. Our 71 year track record in our community speaks volumes, but this National Standards confirmation ensures the integrity of our hard work. When you see the National Standards Seal, you can be assured that we’re committed to meeting the highest standards for grantmaking as well. ”
About The Community Foundations National Standards Board
The Board is a supporting organization of the Council on Foundations that administers and advances National Standards for U.S. Community Foundations™ by ensuring the integrity of the accreditation process and building the value of compliance. Visit
