Two New Endowment Funds Come to Life at the Community Foundation of Greater New Britain
The Friendship Service Center of New Britain Fund and the Walnut Hill Rose Garden Fund are Funds Available to Donors
New Britain, Conn. (August 1, 2011)
–Both the Friendship Service Center and the Friends of the Walnut Hill Rose Garden recently created Agency Endowment Funds through
The Community Foundation of Greater New Britain (CFGNB)
. Endowment Funds help to provide a revenue stream to support the mission and programs of non-profit organizations, now and in the future.
The
Friendship Service Center
, started by Monsignor Joseph Farrell in 1968 to assist the homeless, has grown steadily over the decades as homelessness has also steadily increased. Earnings from the new Friendship Service Center Endowment Fund will go to support the general operating expenses and services.
“The services we offer to those in need are literally the difference between life and death for many. The Friendship Center is delighted to become a part of the Community Foundation and its good work by creating the Friendship Service Center of New Britain Fund. The revenue from the Fund will be used to help the most vulnerable among us as we: provide emergency, transitional and permanent housing solutions for those who are poor and homeless, feed hungry men, women and children and work to prevent homelessness through our Emergency Needs Ministry Program. We strive always to be sure that what we do lives up to our motto: ‘Our Work is Love Made Visible,” says the Center’s Executive Director, Ellen Perkins Simpson.
The
Friends of the Walnut Hill Rose Garden
organization took root in 2009 to restore and maintain the garden located in New Britain’s Walnut Hill Park. Earnings from their new endowment fund will go to garden maintenance supporting their mission: “To connect and unite residents through the therapeutic art and joy of gardening at the Walnut Hill Park Rose Garden and restoring and reviving vital urban green space in New Britain.”
Jim Williamson, President of the CFGNB explains, “We welcome the opportunity to assist local non-profits through the creation of endowment funds. These funds are helpful by providing income to the non-profit to carry out their good work and to provide donors a safe, professionally and locally managed vehicle for their donations. It is truly a win-win situation for our community.”
