The Catalyst Fund of the Community Foundation of Greater New Britain Seeking Grant Applications for 2011 Grant
Members Choose Financial Literacy and Responsibility as the Topic for the $10,000 Grant to be Awarded in November
New Britain, Conn. (June 21, 2011) – Applications are now being accepted for a $10,000 grant to benefit a nonprofit that is focused on strengthening financial literacy skills and responsibility. The grant will come from the Catalyst Fund, an initiative of The Community Foundation of Greater New Britain (CFGNB). It is available to nonprofits in the four towns served by the Community Foundation: Berlin, New Britain, Plainville and Southington. Proposals must be submitted to the Catalyst Fund by Wednesday, July 20, 2010. To apply for the grant, or for more information on the application, contact Joeline Wruck, Director of Program, at the CFGNB at 860-229-6018 x 307, jwruck@cfgnb.org.
Each year, members of the Catalyst Fund select an area of focus for grant making that addresses needs in the Greater New Britain area. This year’s focus on financial literacy and responsibility was chosen after careful consideration of present needs and current resources in the community. The Catalyst Fund will entertain proposals that increase awareness of and participation in existing effective and evidence-based financial education programs or which improve existing financial literacy training programs.
“While exploring this topic we learned that there are a number of effective financial literacy curricula in existence. The issue seems to be increasing awareness of and participation in these programs,” explains Keith Bova, Chair of the Catalyst Fund Steering Committee. “In addition to encouraging increased participation in existing programs, we also believe that financial literacy training could be incorporated into services offered by existing programs.”
